MBBS in Bangladesh – Curriculum

The curriculum of MBBS in Bangladesh is simple to understand. It is very similar to the Indian MBBS system and is in sync with the world MBBS education standard practices. The total duration of the MBBS course is 5 years. The academic years starts on 1st of January. The course is divided into four major phases. Each phase lasts either 1 or 1.5 years and the structure is as follows:

·         Phase 1: The duration of the first phase is 1.5 years. Basic starting subjects like Biochemistry and Anatomy are included in this phase. In this phase, international students get acquainted with the study system in Bangladesh and settle down. They have enough time to pursue their academics as well as live a well-balanced life as an international student.

·         Phase 2: The duration of the second phase is 1 year. In this phase, students are already used to the international study system followed in the medical universities of Bangladesh. Subjects like Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine are taught in this phase.

·         Phase 3: The duration of the third phase is the same as the second phase, 1 year. More subjects are pursued in this phase which includes Microbiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology Therapeutics.

·         Phase 4: The duration of this phase is the same as the first phase, 1.5 years. This phase has the most challenging subjects but enthusiastic students enjoy them thoroughly. These subjects are Medicine, Obstetrics, Medicine, and other allied subjects.

MBBS in Bangladesh - Colleges and Universities

MCI had approved 7 Universities and out of these 4 Universities had 64 Medical Colleges. Under Dhaka Universities there are 39 Medical Colleges and University of Chittagong has 10 colleges. University of Rajshahi and University of Shah Jalal have 11 and 4 colleges respectively.

MBBS in Bangladesh – Eligibility

For admission in Bangladesh the students have to fulfil the following criteria:

·         The Indian student should fulfil all the criteria stipulated by MCI for MBBS admission Abroad

·         In addition to the above, students should get more than 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually. It is not enough if they have an overall average of 60%.

·         Also the student should not have more than 1 year gap between year of completion of 12th standard and admission to MBBS. For example, student seeking admission in the year 2021 should have completed 12th standard either in 2021 or 2020.

MBBS in Bangladesh – Budget

Considering the quality of education and close proximity to India, the budget for MBBS in Bangladesh can be considered to be really moderate. The total budget to complete the entire MBBS program of 5 years works out between Rs. 35 lakhs to Rs. 45 lakhs. This includes Tuition Fee, Hostel Fee, Mess Charges, Visa processing etc. Since most of the Colleges expect a major portion of the Tuition Fee to be paid at the at the time of admission or immediately thereafter the First Year expenses will vary between Rs. 12 lakhs to Rs. 22 lakhs. The parents should be prepared for this. Even though this can be a roadblock to many considering all other aspects Bangladesh still remain a hot favourite for many Indian students and the seats fill very fast.
