Removal of List of MCI Approved Colleges by National Medical Commission
National Medical Commission has recently announced the following:
It may be noted that the erstwhile Medical Council of India
had provided a list of foreign Medical Institutions/Universities for MBBS or
equivalent course based upon the information received from the Indian
Embassy/High Commission of India concerned. It is to clarify that the National
Medical Commission does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/
Universities for MBBS or equivalent course. The public at large is advised that
before taking admission in MBBS or its equivalent course in a university
outside India, confirmation of the fee structure, details of the course, etc.
should be directly obtained from the University/Institution concerned.
What does this really mean to students who want to pursue
MBBA in Abroad?
Earlier MCI had approved 45 Universities for MBBS in China
and 54 Colleges / Universities for MBBS in Russia, 16 Colleges / Universities
for MBBS in Ukraine, 25 Colleges
/ Universities for MBBS in Georgia, 40 Colleges / Universities for MBBS
in Philippines, 7 Colleges / Universities (87 Colleges
under these Universities) for MBBS in Bangladesh, 7 Colleges / Universities
for MBBS in Kyrgyzstan, 7 Colleges / Universities
for MBBS in Armenia and 12 Colleges / Universities
for MBBS in Kazakhstan. Similarly,
many other colleges in different countries also figured in their approved list.
This used to serve as a reference point for students and parents for selecting
a college when they look for MBBS Abroad. Now without this list, they
have to do their own research or depend on a Consultant.
What are the dangers the students and parents likely to face?
While some may argue that without
the MCI approved list the students have a wider list of colleges to choose from,
the real danger lies in students falling to prey to unscrupulous agents posing
as medical education consultants and selecting a college without proper infrastructure
and history of teaching MBBS in full English medium. There are many colleges in China that are
teaching Chinese medicines and run bi-lingual programs. These were delisted as
recently as a couple of years back. There is every chance that these colleges may
come back with the help of agents who are only mainly focus on their
business interests.
What should the students and parents do?
Initially, the last published MCI List
may stand as a reference point. Soon many other Colleges / Universities which
were not figuring in the earlier list may be promoted and offered for admission.
To start with the students should look for
the following:
1. Number
of years of existence of the College/University
2. Whether
it is Government or private?
3. How
many batches of students completed MBBS and passed out already?
4. Is
the course offered only for Allopathic medicine?
5. Will
the medium of teaching be fully in English for the total duration?
6. Are
there any students with whom you can speak to and verify the facts?
Even though students and parents have the means to do their own research and verify the facts it is advisable for students and parents to consult a reliable and professional medical education consultant for advice since many times their own research may not be good enough and there are chances that they miss out some points. At Mediseats Abroad we place the interest of the students in top priority and advise and guide them in a very professional way.
